// What this project is

The brief

Families in a blood emergency in India lose critical hours calling brokers, posting on WhatsApp groups, and chasing unverified contacts — often paying middlemen for what should be a free act of humanity. Sarv Dharam Sewa Foundation had 12,000+ willing donors across 28 states but no digital infrastructure to connect them with seekers. They needed a platform that works in a panic: fast, free, no login, and trustworthy enough that a stranger's phone number can be shared safely.

What I built & delivered

I designed and built Sarvdharam Blood — a zero-cost, zero-middlemen donor discovery platform. Seekers search verified donors by blood group down to city level with no login required, or post an urgent request that notifies matching donors across the network. A volunteer verification layer sits between search and contact: every introduction is human-approved before phone numbers unlock, killing the broker problem entirely. Donors get granular privacy controls (call only, WhatsApp only, or hidden) and a smart 90-day cooldown that auto-hides them after donating, so seekers only ever see genuinely available people.

// The process

Step by step

  1. 1

    Discovery — shadowed real blood-request flows in volunteer WhatsApp groups to map where hours were being lost, and interviewed chapter admins on how donor trust actually gets established on the ground.

  2. 2

    Design — built an emergency-first UI: search above the fold, no login walls, large tap targets, and trust signals (verified badges, response-time stats) placed where hesitant first-time seekers need them.

  3. 3

    Build — developed the donor search engine with state → district → city cascading filters, the urgent-request broadcast system, and a role-based admin panel where chapter admins verify donors and approve introductions, with every data change logged.

  4. 4

    Launch & iterate — rolled out with camps in Haryana, instrumented response times, and tuned the verification flow until average seeker-to-donor connection dropped to minutes.

"Prateek didn't just build us a website — he built infrastructure for saving lives. What used to take our volunteers hours of frantic phone calls now happens in minutes, completely free, exactly as sewa should be."
